Five wardrobe staples every girl should own

Hello, friends!

I hope everyone is enjoying this gorgeous late summer day; I know I am! I’ve been back to school for about a week and a half now, so I finally feel like I’m getting settled into a routine and I don’t feel quite as scatterbrained anymore, thank goodness! Anyway, I’ve been enjoying all of my journalism classes. I have also made the decision to take on a fashion merchandising minor, so it has been fun to go to those classes. Yesterday in Fashion Industry, we were going around the table discussing the current trends. It made me feel inspired to write this post. I came up with five easy-to-wear pieces that are trendy yet very classy. Here are the staples that deserve a spot in your wardrobe!

1.) T-shirt Dress: I scooped this item up weeks back when I visited one of my favorite stores, Forever 21! In my opinion, you can’t go wrong with a T-shirt dress—it’s super comfortable yet super stylish. I own several, but this one is my favorite. Obviously, it’s made out of a T-shirt-like fabric; it’s thin, breathable and stretchy but can still be dressed up to look fancy if you need it to! I like to dress mine up with a cute statement necklace. And of course, I absolutely love the hot pink color. It’s so happy and peppy!

2.) Printed Romper: To me, I think rompers are the most convenient piece of clothing ever. Although I love to wear me a cute dress, rompers are great too because they can be more playful and wearable than dresses. You have both a top and shorts or pants built in—you can get dressed in a snap! I purchased this piece back in June at TJ Maxx. I absolutely love everything about it: the fun, unique print, the cut of it and the texture of the fabric. You can wear it on a casual day of shopping or you can throw on a simple sweater and wear it to the office (which is what I did during my internship.) The fit and fabric is also super flow-y and comfy—I feel like I’m wearing PJs when I have it on.

3.) Casual Skirt: I purchased this super cute black-and-cream striped skirt three years ago from Forever 21 and it remains to be one of the staples in my wardrobe. I love the casual fit of it and of course the bow detail in the front! This skirt is great because it can go with most anything. I love to pair it with a cute graphic tee, like the one below!

4.) Graphic Tee: If there’s one item I have an abundance of in my wardrobe, it would have to be graphic tees. Because think about it, you could wear them with literally ANYTHING AND EVERYTHING. Shorts, pants, jeans, skirts, dresses….the list goes on and on! This specific tee is my absolute favorite one! I bought it from Delia’s four years ago, and still wear it quite often. By the way, Delia’s is a great place to shop if your looking for some graphic tees. There are pages and pages of them on its website, which means you are bound to find one that fits your taste.

5.) Watch: In life, wearing a watch is obviously a no-brainer. For years and years, I stuck to wearing digital watches. They were reliable, waterproof and I was a fan of the sporty look. Recently, it seems as if analog watches are making a big comeback. So I finally decided to purchase one when I went to TJ Maxx one day over the summer. I absolutely love my stainless steel gold Betsey Johnson watch. It’s super stylish and makes a statement without being too over-the-top. I love the rhinestones around the face and the large print of the numbers—after all, I don’t have the best eyes, so they are easy to read. I’ve seen a lot of gold and rose gold tones watches lately. Whatever color you choose, you are sure to look super chic and put together!

So there ya have it, five wardrobe staples that are sure to flatter anyone! What are some of the key pieces in your wardrobe?

Have a fabulous day!
