For the longest time, I have shied away from buying eyeshadow palettes. I don’t really know why! Well, maybe because they always seemed just a little too pricey for me. And let’s be honest, I enjoy buying makeup so much that I have always sticked to buying one eyeshadow at a time. Hahahaha!
This past Christmas, I received my first two big eyeshadow palettes. I love them both in their own unique ways. I got the Lorac Pro Mega 2 (which was Limited Edition for the holiday season) and Urban Decay Naked 2. Here are my thoughts on both palettes!
Well, hold on a second. I must say that before I apply these shadows, I always prime my lids with Urban Decay Eyeshadow Primer Potion in Eden. I have mentioned this product countless times, so many that you are probably tired of hearing about it! Eden not only helps shadow stay in place, but it also has a slight yellow tint to it that really brightens your eyes. I’m on my second tube and can’t imagine being without it.
Above is my all-time favorite primer. Now, let’s talk about those palettes, shall we?
Lorac Pro Mega 2
Lorac eyeshadows will always hold a special place in my heart because it is one of the first things I ever purchased from Sephora. I remember feeling so important when I picked it out and payed for it myself–I think I was in 9th grade….
Anyway, I was immediately enamored when I laid eyes on this palette. I just think it has such a wide variety of shades, while still being wearable at the same time. Pretty metallics and mattes. Golds, bronzes, silvers, browns, purples, oranges, berries, seashell pinks…I could go on for days!
Perhaps my most favorite thing about the Pro Mega 2 is the texture of the shadows themselves. So often, we think of eyeshadows of being dry, pressed powders. But these are different; they actually feel very smooth and creamy–not drying at all! They glide on so easily, feeling so luxurious.
Sadly, when I tried to find this link on Ulta, it was already taken off the site. However, if you are still considering trying Lorac eyeshadows, I say GO FOR IT! Like I said, there is such a variety of shades to try while still being elegant and wearable. You won’t regret it!
Honestly I feel like I’m the only beauty blogger on Earth who up until recently had yet to try one of Urban Decay’s legendary Naked Palettes! I don’t know why I’m so late to the party on this one, but nonetheless I am over-the-moon excited to finally own one of these babies.
I’d say the overall “theme” of the Naked 2 palette is that all of the shadows are taupe-based shades. There is a nice range of colors– ranging from golds, to rose golds, to bronzes and grays. So pretty!
The thing that I love most about these eyeshadows is that they are blendable and wearable. No shade is too dramatic. In fact, if you are just now starting out with eyeshadow, I would suggest giving the Naked 2 a try. They aren’t as thick or creamy as the Lorac ones, which means it really hard to over-apply them! You can wear them every day without looking too “done up.” Plus, I really love that it comes with a double-ended brush!
My favorite shadows in this palette are Chopper, a shimmery rose gold; Pistol, a gunmetal grey; and TDK, a more taupe-heavy rose gold. I’m always a fan of shimmery shadows!
Before I go, I thought I’d include a picture of what the shadow’s textures look like. On the top is Urban Decay. Although it’s not insanely pigmented, these shadows are easy to blend and buildable. Lorac’s texture is much more creamy and bold. All-in-all, both brands are fantastic at making beautiful eyeshadow palettes!
